- Letter from the General Manager

General Manager’s Letter – November 2007

Aerojet
GET L1 is operational. This project has remediated over 44 million gallons of water to date. The final paving and landscaping is under way and the project will be fully completed by December 1, 2007.

GET L at Ancil Hoffman Park will begin construction in the spring of 2008. The first phase will be to construct an underground reservoir and pipelines from the extraction wells to the GET facilities. Once this is completed in the fall of 2008, construction of phase two (the building and pump station) will begin.

Bajamont Water Treatment Plant
The treatment plant expansion is out to bid. Bid award is scheduled for December of 2007. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-January with completion by April 2008. The treatment plant expansion will add four additional filters and associated equipment. The expansion will require no major construction or change to the building.

Conservation
The weather is changing and winter will soon be upon us. By following fall water conservation tips, you can prepare your landscaping for the winter season. With shorter days and cooler weather, our lawns need substantially less water. The soil will retain moisture longer due to lower temperatures. Some landscapes do not need to be irrigated until spring, while other landscapes may need water two or three times a month. Adjust automatic timers accordingly and remember to turn them off while it’s raining.

The Native Plant Demonstration Garden located on half an acre of land adjacent to the Strain Volunteer Center in William Pond is nearing completion. Installation of the irrigation system is currently underway with planting scheduled to take place at the end of November. The purpose of the Native Plant Garden is to educate the public about plant species native to the greater Sacramento region and the conservation benefits of utilizing native plants. Once established many California native plants need minimal irrigation beyond normal rainfall.

Meter Project
The phase 4 meter installation began on July 9, 2007 for section 12. To date 439 of 553 meters have been installed in section #12. Section #12 is scheduled to be completed by December 28, 2007. Section #1 will begin installation on January 2, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2008.

On-Line Bill Payment
Beginning in January 2008 the District will be offering on-line bill payment through CWD’s website.
